CRA charitable status – expected decision date
The Green Offsets Foundation of Canada has applied to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for registration as a Canadian charity. Based on CRA’s current processing timelines, the Board expects a decision on its application sometime the first or second quarter 2026, most likely in early April.
The Foundation’s application was accepted for review by CRA earlier in 2025. Since that time, the file has remained under active consideration. CRA has has asked and received additional information about the Foundation and its plans but this update should not be interpreted as a commitment or promise on the part of CRA. Rather, it reflects the Foundation’s current understanding of typical processing times for charitable registration applications.
Until CRA reaches a decision, The Green Offsets Foundation of Canada continues to operate on a cautious, preparatory basis. The Foundation is developing educational materials, building relationships with transit agencies and other potential partners, and preparing internal systems so that it can move quickly if and when charitable status is granted.
Once CRA has made a decision on the application, the Foundation will update this website and will clearly communicate what the decision means for donors, partners, and the public. If registration is approved, the Foundation will also provide information about the effective date of registration and the conditions under which official donation receipts can be issued for income tax purposes.
In the meantime, the Board of The Green Offsets Foundation of Canada remains committed to transparency and to responsible stewardship. No promises are being made about the timing or outcome of CRA’s review; however, the Foundation believes it has submitted a strong application aligned with its mission to turn emissions into solutions.
